Total US Mint 2011 Silver Sales Near 45 Million Ounces

United States Mint logoFriday we noted that 2011 US Mint Silver Eagle sales are nearing 40 million ounces.  SD reader Mark has pointed out that total US Mint silver sales for 2011 are approximately 12% higher than this total for ASE sales, as the Mint also sold a large number of the America The Beautiful 5oz coins, 100,000 sets (500,000 ounces) of the 25th Anniversary Silver Eagle Proofs, as well as various other proof coins that total another 5 million ounces of silver.
In addition to the American Silver Eagle bullion coins mentioned in the article, the mint has also sold a variety of other silver items this year. The 5 ounce coins America The Beautiful bullion coins as well as the 2011-W collector version. The 2010-W ATBs weren't available last year and were also all sold during 2011. They also sell 90% silver proof mint sets -- a 5 quarter proof set and the 14 coin proof set that contains the 5 quarters plus the dime and half dollar. Then there are the 90% commemorative $1 US Army and $1 Medal of Honor coins (.7723 ounces of silver per coin) and the 9/11 medal (uses the same blank as the ASE). And as I mentioned in the post above there is the silver used in the Gold Eagles.
