The Doc and BullRun are Putting in an Order to the Mint. Anyone want to Join?

The Doc and I are putting in an order early next week for 1oz silver rounds the old fashioned way, directly from the mint.  We would like to give SD readers the opportunity to join in on the order.  The premium over spot for the direct order will be as low as 79 cents per ounce depending on the sales volume plus S and H.  The price of our order will not be locked until the mint has received all of our funds which will need to be transferred using a bank wire.  Once the order is placed, the mint will purchase the silver and mint it to 1oz rounds.  We will receive the silver within 3 and 1/2 weeks and ship it to our readers.  If you are interested in stacking phyzz with the Doc, send us an email to silverdoctors@gmail.com.

I...am intrigued and have been hoping to do a group buy of sorts.

What if we are in Canada?

Anyone know how to setup a group buy? ie trust the people. Best shipping methods.

is there a minimum order ?

79¢ over spot? That's a bargain. It's a pity that my wife is against buying more silver. She believes in real estate. Sigh!

Now this sounds interesting. When is this going to happen? I have to liquidate a few things quickly. Anyone interested in buying a 77 Super-glide (shovel-head) or a Dobro?

2 oz. per week

Hey Doc, I see that you use gmail. I guess you don't know that google is the CIA (like facebook), and that gmail collects EVERYTHING you ever send thru it. Google chrome with the online toolbar collects EVERY keystroke you make! My advice is to avoid all things google. Use another email (I recommend swissmail.org, or fastmail.fm), do searches using scroogle.org (amazing google search without logging your search terms, IP, etc), etc. Another problem with gmail is that they can so easily lock up your account - this happened in the last 2 years when some corporate details were accidentally sent to someone's gmail account - their email was out of action for months due to legal problems.

Also, (about google), the cookie which google puts on your PC, has an expiry date of 2038!!! There are ways to delete or reset this cookie, so the CIA doesn't spy on you in this way (search for them using scroogle.org!).

I'm going to be part of this purchase system.

Cracking open my IRA yesterday on a 60 day temorary basis, I transferred some funds to a regular checking accounts which gives me some buying power.
If we get some weight involved, Doc can get right into the mint, going around the middlemen. If my purchase gives us a collective buying power I'm in on this.
I've been in contact with Doc about this over the last few weeks to see how it works.

The Doc and I will provide a more compressive post on the mint purchase later on this evening. Just to address a few questions which have been asked. Right now we are considering including all purchase quantities, so send us an email to let us know of your interest and the respective quantity. We will not be shipping internationally. Additionally, the mint we are purchasing direct from is not the U.S. Mint (the 1oz rounds will not be SAEs). Please send all your questions to silverdoctors@gmail.com so we can answer them directly.

Shit, timing is everything. I blew an engine in my 14 year old car three days ago. Will cost 1600 plus....that was my silver stash money.

Hopefully, the Doc will do this again. I am really bummed.

NO SHIPPING TO CANADA? WHAT!

Oh I thought Eagles from the Mint mint.

You cannot buy bullion of any kind from the US Mint. All US Mint bullion is sold first to one of their Primary Dealers who in turn, sell it to the public.

Chances are the Doc and crew will be using the private Northwest Territorial Mint or similar private mints. Silver is silver regardless of the source.

Seventy nine cents over spot plus shipping is pretty good. I'll stick with buying junk at or below spot locally. This eliminates the paper trail, shipping costs and keeps my money local.

I'm interested in buying junk silver. But I don't really know anything about it. Any pointers?

I love me some classic silver (junk). I only have three rules of thumb when buying it.
1) It must be in decent shape, if any words or numbers are worn off, it's not good junk.
2) Morgan dollars Rule. They never fail to sell and garner nice premiums. If I had it to do over, I might buy nothing but Morgan dollars.
3) Walking Liberty halves are the most beautiful American coins, ever. Love me some Walkers.

Dimes and quarters are fine, but they just don't have the appeal of the halves.
Some people will hold the Kennedy or Franklin halves in higher esteem for fear of wear and tear diminishing the weight of the older coins. I have compared my Walkers to my Kennedies and found the Walkers to be a tenth of a gram (or so) heavier. They made things better in the old days.
Bottom line is, you can't go wrong with Fine or better Morgans, Walkers, Franklin and Kennedy halves.
The standing Liberty coins are badly worn, the ones I've seen for sale. Peace dollars were poorly minted with soft lines, not that exciting.
Dimes are so small, they don't seem like they cause any excitement to buyers.
Everyone will start claiming dimes are great for barter, etc, and maybe they are. When I look at silver coins to purchase, I'm drawn to the big pretties, the little dinks don't do it for me.
Don't stack culls you find, flip them for the good stuff. You can check for key dates, but shops are well aware of them and keep them back for premium sale. AU junk is the nicest silver of all, and can be had on the cheap.
The site at the link has a great value calculator.

Anon 12:35,
I pretty much agree with Conax. Biggest advice when buying junk is avoid the heavily worn coins. Most dealers price 90% junk at x.xx X face value. A local dealer sold me junk at $2.26 X face today but melt is currently $2.32 X face.

I do like dimes but try to buy an equal mix (in ounces) of Morgans, Peace, halves, quarters and dimes. I bought a 5 gallon bucket full of dimes (3000 ounces) and made out like a bandit when I discovered 70 rolls of BU Roosevelt dimes in the bottom.

I also balance my junk with equal amounts (in ounces) of rounds and ASE's. Monitor premiums to know when to buy which type.

*If* our currency collapses, I think junk will be king at that time. If spot price goes to $100 that will make a dime worth more than $7. Small denominations will be in demand. Also, as this economy deteriorates, I expect to see more and more Chinese counterfeiting of rounds and ASE's but I doubt they will bother counterfeiting circulated junk.

Would be awesome if the rounds say Silver Doctors on them.

I bet if DOc gets his silver trading platform up the mint will print Silver Doctor rounds
