Utah Law allows Merchants to Accept Silver and Gold!
Utah has passed a law, Legal Tender Act of 2011, allowing merchants to accept silver and gold based off of the value of the weight contained in the coins themselves (not their face value). New York Times considers it a law "first of its kind" and mentioned other states including Minnesota, Idaho, and Georgia as states who have considered a similar law.
