Japanese Auto Production, Sales, and Exports Plummet

The Japanese Auto Manufacturers Association (JAMA) has released a summary of April production, sales, and exports, and as we have been expecting, the numbers were beyond gruesome.
Production numbers are down 50-80% yoy, sales are down 40-54% yoy, and exports are down 67-83%.
Such a drastic decline as this will not be contained to the Japanese economy. Expect big declines for US automakers as well.  Again, as Q2 earnings are released, prepare for the next big wave down.

April 2011 Automobile Production Figures by Type of Vehicle

1) Passenger cars: 249,772 units, down 377,548 units or 60.2%

Standard cars (over 2000 cc)	148,097 units, down 227,561 units or 60.6%
Small cars	52,276 units, down 98,960 units or 65.4%
Mini car (under 660 cc)	49,399 units, down 51,027 units or 50.8%

2) Trucks: 40,305 units, down 54,579 units or 57.5%

Standard truck vehicles	15,440 units, down 25,025 units or 61.8%
Small trucks	7,762 units, down 9,995 units or 56.3%
Mini trucks (under 660 cc)	17,103 units, down 19,559 units or 53.3 %

3) Buses: 1,924 units, down 7,701 units or 80.0%

Large buses	290 units, down 766 units or 72.5%
Small buses	1,634 units, down 6,935 units or 80.9%
