SD reported last Tuesday that the
US Mint sold 3.2 million Silver Eagles for the first business day of 2012. While many of these sales were like pre-sales on 2012 Silver Eagles placed in December, the torrid sales pace has continued, as the mint sold nearly another 800,000 Silver Eagles during the last 4 days of the week- bringing the first week of 2012's sales totals to nearly 4 million ounces.
This is 2/3rd's of January 2011's record breaking 6.4 million in sales for only the first week of Jan 2012!
