SD Reader's First Hand Account from Greece

SD reader Crazy Canuck writes about what his relatives are experiencing in Greece today.

My wife has several close friends living in and around Athens and a few other places in Greece. They recently told us that, Several of them who have jobs in various fields( civil servants, hotel staff, engineers, laborers, mechanics) have not been paid for several weeks to several months.
They are obliged to continue going to work every day, because if they quit or rebel against their employers, they will simply NOT be paid the monies they are owed. Their employers can't even tell them WHEN they will be paid.

Most of these people have banned together or are seeking help from family or friends. They are selling possessions to purchase food. There is alot of theft going on because alot of people don't know what else to do to feed themselves and their families. Apparently the feeling is that the Greek gov't doesn't want to hear or even give the impression that they care what the Greek people have to say about the bailouts or their future. They are genuinely scared of the mobs and the destruction that they believe is coming. I have met some of these people in the past and they are Just like you and me. Regular people just trying to survive the chaos.
We all need to remember. Greece is NOTHING compared to The USA....and by association, Canada and Mexico.
Now clear your head and ask yourself....When the contagion makes it to this side of the pond, and it WILL, What will I do if my livelihood disappears? Will I have the courage to stand up and fight the police and government? Will I defy the powers that be, even if it means indefinite incarceration or worse? Will I defend what's mine? Will I deny my friends and neighbors food, fuel and other necessities because they did not prepare as I did? Will I steal the same from my friends and neighbors to care for my family? Will I have what it takes mentally to endure from day to day while those around me falter. Will I have the compassion to help those who are in need,at my own expense?
I ask myself these questions often. It takes a certain kind of person to survive!

Get ready!!

Hello Crazy,

I read this in your earlier comment. I'm sorry to hear about your friends' situation. I hope the best for them. Thank them for the information. My wife and I have friends in Italy and the UK. They are not too happy either.

Prayers for your friends from 2 OZ. and wife.

Solidarity used to be a big word in past social upheavals. It now makes a come-back.

"Solidarity is not a matter of altruism. Solidarity comes from the inability to tolerate the affront to our own integrity of passive or active collaboration in the oppression of others, and from the deep recognition of our most expansive self-interest. From the recognition that, like it or not, our liberation is bound up with that of every other being on the planet, and that politically, spiritually, in our heart of hearts we know anything else is unaffordable." - Aurora Levins Morales[

Its certainly disturbing to hear about "real world" situations like this.

The criminal cartel have wrought destruction on us all.

Pretty deep Aurora. Spot on though.

Thanks,

I want to know why we are not reading about this in the MSM? Why are they doting on everything Obama and how great he is?

This is the type of information black out that we will have when the SHTF. Establish your own communications avenues so that you can learn what is really happening. In order to organize, you must communicate.

Use the internet until it becomes censored and it WILL become censored, but have a back up.

My family members, X wife, kids, and old friends think I am an obsessed old fool. I have begged them to get out of debt, store food, buy some metal, etc. They avoid me. They tell me I need to get medical attention for my delusional negative thinking. I have empathy for the Greeks but I am not surprised that this is happening to them and I am certain that this will spread to the US in the future. Again, I am sorry that the Greeks are going thru this. They don't deserve it.

Great thought Ordinary Joe. While they can jam it, I intend to get a HAM radio. Two way radios are good for short distances. If anyone has some old telephones (early to late 90's) I'll be happy to tell how to convert them into "land lines" that can be used between neighbors using only a 9 volt battery. Much clearer than Ma Bell.

Someone famous said something like,

If you prepare and the worst doesn't happen....nothing is lost. If no preparations are made and the worst happens....all is lost.

That being said...One does have to remember to enjoy the present as well.

They will all look to you when the SHTF.

Sorry for your friends in Greek and all people who is suffering....but

...not too long ago, life was simpler, less things, less food but better chew, less car but more walking, cycling,...less going out but more family and friends talk...less play station, internet, etc. for kids...but more play in the street, etetetcc.

And people was healthier, slept better, slimer, etc...

Conclusion...we all can live with much less and be more happy...perfect deal..

Lets start learning living with less, nowwwww

True, true ANON 5:07. Where I am, we play our own music and dance (banjos' guitars, dobor's, fiddles, wash tub bases, etc.). Big cookouts, family and friends, conversation and barn raisin's (Is that a word?). More chew and easy living. The Canuck is right. Enjoy what you have.

Some times I think that the elite is behind all these fears if the system collapses.....so anything they do is ok, so they mantain the system going....

Maybe a system collapse will be very hard at the begening...but after the equlilibrium..will be a better life....

What is happening in Greece can be considered equivalent to the Great Depression in the US. Its something horrible beyond belief. 21pc unemployment and Greeks literally returning to the land to survive. Terrible.

Anonymous said...

Terrible returning to the land?...

fresh vegetables, free range eggs, less contamination, less noise, les trafic, clean air, deep sleep, more walking and slimer, better health,....and now you have internet in country side, electricity,....

The "take-away" from this, is no one wants the world to know of the suffering of the Greek's.
Just like Bush did NOT want a picture of the Kurd kids gassed by Saddam, as then he HAD to create the NO FLY ZONE, please find info channels and get the word out to the world how these people are being screwed, and stop blaming victims. Blame the greedy bastards that sold them down the river.

Yes I will. I might run out of friends and neighbors, but we don't really talk much now anyways.

"Maybe a system collapse will be very hard at the begening...but after the equlilibrium..will be a better life...."

Yes, that is the natural process of change. In the midst of change, things can get very hard. But afterwards, everything will return to the right equilibrium and balance, and a better life will ensue.

The world created by Nature is all about balance and harmony, not constant growth (or destruction) or a constant increase (or decrease) in everything.

People have been taught that they must always get ahead and have more of everything, and be better than everyone else. But that is part of the fallacy that has led us to the present-day crises. Competition leads to destruction. A healthy society must rely on cooperation instead. If the world was meant for only one man and his family, it would not need to be as large as it is. The world was meant for many people to live together as part of a society--a civilization.

The fact that there are many sovereign countries in the world is good, because each exists to serve as a check and balance of power against the other. The same with individual families. If the world was under a single all-powerful government, who would be able to oppose them? As it is, people (as represented by individual nations) still have some semblance of control. But even that is quickly fading away.

There is a reason the 'Towel of Babel' was a bad idea...

If you try to enlighten friends, relatives and neighbors and they still refuse to listen....

It might be time to stop mentioning it to them.
Go into Run Silent - Run Deep mode.
Maybe they'll forget you even prepped.
Start b1tching and moaning how bad it all is.
Cry poverty.
And for Heavens sake....I hope no one mentions that they're stacking.
That could be an OPSEC disaster of nightmarish possibilities.

If they refuse to do anything...will you will become the target of their needs when the SHTF.
How much do you have ?
Are you prepared to fight off a relative ?
I've made some plans, prepped and stacked.
It might never be enough.
I won't be pompous enough to say I know exactly what I will or won't do.

But...I've stopped talking about any of this to 99% of the people I know.
My sister would rather add to her Imelda Marcos like shoe collection, than keep an extra can of beans in her house.
Am I prepared to abandon her ?
She could even become an OPSEC security problem.
I just don't know.

Hi all,
I love my country, but I sometimes wonder why so many of my countrymen are such blind unthinking idiots. I am a schoolteacher, and the very first school I worked in was chock full of the children of Russian immigrants, many of whom had fled the Motherland because they WEREN'T GETTING PAID!!! They included many schoolteachers like myself, but also doctors and sometimes even police officers (!!)

Flash forward to today... I try to warn my co workers that what is happening in Greece could be heading our way.... you probably heard the eye rolling they do when I say this. "Why thats crazy talk...this is America... it could never happen here" Luckily for me, they never ask me what I'm doing to get ready for it, so they have no idea how much food, fuel, water, ammo and phyzz we've got stashed around the house, many of them in some truly amusing hiding spots. Unless you're me or my wife, you'd have no idea its all there, even if you're inside the house.

Will I help out when TSHTF? I'll stand shoulder to shoulder with citizens -- ie, those who pulled their heads outta their assholes, wiped the shit out of their eyes, and sprouted a brain. The rest? they are SLAVES; they have the slave mentality, waiting for "ol massa" to tell them what to do and how to live. They will only hear my cries of poverty. "so solly, mr marine"

Good points. OPSEC. My neighbor's wife refuses to allow guns on her property or in her house. True ultra liberal. Made the mistake after having one too many on their back mentioning I was prepared to help my neighbor (weapons' wise). He brought it up recently so he is expecting the help.

Learned a valuable lesson. Hope it is not fatal.

Thanks 2oz for the kind words. I would like to find out more about landlines. Where should I look?

Wow, this story is bad news. I am so sorry for those folks, and for our own people who keep their minds closed to the truth because it is inconvenient. It seems like the only time to do something is before it is too late, and many people probably don't have the means to do much of anything even if they did have their minds open, which they seem to prefer keeping closed anyway.

Its a difficult question, helping others. Some people will be casing out your property while they ask for handouts, so they can come back for more, when you are there or not. How often will they come back for more? If you have food storage for say 3 people, should you start handing it out to 20 people in the street who are your "neighbors"? What if the 20 people decide they will have to relieve you of what you do have left, for they are many, and you are but a few?

Will you feel very safe leaving your property to even go to church, where you know folks who need help there too?

In the end, I believe most anyone who is prepared is going to be challenged enough by trying to help our own families (extended as far as preferred) than trying to help our neighbors in the street.

Remember who will be watching you leave your house.

I'm laying here in bed with my wife, reading the thread. I can't tell you how encouraged we both are. It's taken some time but tonight she told me that she gets it. The story from my fellow Canadian really hit home and I want him/her to know it was appreciated.

Thanks to everyone for the awareness you all brought to this post.

Imagine working for nothing but a possible paycheck some day! Unbelievable. That sounds like true slavery, and undoubtedly the master globalist's goal.

Then, the thieves can relieve you of whatever you might hold dear, while you are away from home, essentially working for nothing!

What a nightmare. But that could never happen in America, right?

you know, one of the most beautiful things about this thread is how a story about humanity, instead of the psychopaths who "rule" us, elicited approx 30 posts. I'm touched. Thanks Canuck!

Hello Ordinary Joe,

Land lines between two phones can be bought a most military surplus stores. I my line of work, two people working some distance apart have to "ring out" a common wire. Using the part of the older style phones (mouth and ear section) you can remove one resistor from the ear piece and tie-in a two wire cable (18-2 AWG) through a 9 volt battery on one of the phones. The sound is amazingly clear because there's no electrical "noise" or interference from other phones. I made a couple of these for my kids to play with when they were young. They have a carry distance of about 1,200 feet before the signal starts to get weak. If I get a chance this weekend, I'll send a wiring diagram to the DOC and he can pass it on to you and anyone else that is interested.
